During their recent business visit to China, Essex International has played a key role discussing collaboration between the University of Essex and Chinese businesses in the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics and future networks. Business leaders in Jiangsu Province met the University of Essex’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Forster, and Director of the Institute for Analytics and Data Science, Professor Maria Fasli. The meeting followed the University of Essex welcoming business and technology leaders from Jiangsu to its Colchester Campus in a special visit, co-ordinated by Essex International, earlier in the year.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute, the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing Technology, the Institute of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technologies, the Institute of Future Networks Technology and the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Equipment.
“We had a very positive meeting and discussed areas of collaboration around artificial intelligence, robotics and future networks.
Essex International has played a really vital role in connecting us with businesses in Jiangsu. We are really excited about the opportunities in Jiangsu – particularly around connecting in with the strengths of our Institute for Analytics and Data Science.”
Professor Maria Fasli, Director of the Institute for Analytics and Data Science
Strengthening international education and business links
Whilst in China Essex International has also been supporting the University of Essex to help promote the University’s big data analytics consultancy to a large insurance company. The big data analytics project will aid business performance and requires support from the Department of Organisation in Jiangsu which Essex International has requested. The project will be a key project in the Essex-Jiangsu relationship, a relationship which goes back almost 30 years.
The project will further strengthen the international education and business links between the two regions. University of Essex Vice Chancellor Professor Forster has just returned from visiting China for the third time in 12 months to build on the links already built, with Essex International’s support, with Chinese businesses and universities.
“We are really lucky to have developed strong links with businesses and universities in China over the last year. This latest visit will include advanced discussions with potential education and research partners who are keen to work with the University of Essex.”
Professor Anthony Forster, Vice-Chancellor, University of Essex
Promoting vocational exchanges
Essex International also helps to recruit students from China for universities, colleges and schools. During their visit to China Essex International has been exploring the opportunities in vocational exchanges and collaboration in youth football development. Essex International met with the Jiangsu Department of Education to discuss potential football exchanges, for children and teachers, and the next steps in Mandarin language teaching in Essex schools.
The Jiangsu Department of Education has very close links with Essex County Council’s education team. Projects are agreed through the East of England - Jiangsu Partnership which is managed by Essex International on behalf of Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils. The partnership helps businesses, schools, universities, vocational colleges, museums, cities and regions develop profitable partnerships. This has increased exports to China and attracted new inward investment to the East of England.
