The Essex Chronicle Essex Business Excellence Awards are currently looking for businesses to enter the prestigious Export Award.
Businesses that can display creativity, drive and commitment to international expansion are urged to enter before the closing date of 12th June 2015.
This forms part of the Essex Business Excellence Awards which promotes businesses excelling in Essex. There are 10 award categories and winners will receive free publicity and media coverage from which they can gain new business, an enhanced reputation and the respect of their peers.
Export Award sponsored by Essex International
With a recent poll showing more than a third of all medium sized businesses in the East of England plan to increase their export levels in the next 12 months, the Export Award is of particular interest.
Essex International, Essex County Council’s (ECC’s) International Trade Team came up with the idea for the award for export – a category which they also sponsor. Essex International are keen for more businesses to enter the category as they know first-hand how many local companies are exporting abroad and increasing their presence overseas.
“We are delighted to sponsor this award and we are very much looking forward to seeing the entrants in this inaugural category.
We would encourage all businesses with links to export to enter this category and show the rest of the business world what can be achieved through forming partnerships overseas.”
Cllr Kevin Bentley, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, ECC
What the Export Award recognises
Businesses wishing to enter for this award must be able to demonstrate revenue growth in overseas markets and that exports represent a meaningful proportion of their total business.
Applicants will be expected to have engaged in some form of market research to identify potential markets for their products or services and marketing promotional activity to gain access to these markets. This might be in collaboration with an overseas partner. Areas that will be looked at include:
• Export growth achieved and the ability to sustain that growth
• The contribution that exports are making to the business as a whole
• The creativity, drive and commitment to international expansion
Export in the county on the increase
Essex is at the forefront of companies planning to increase their export levels, aided by the county’s unique relationship with the Jiangsu Province, the 3rd largest provincial economy in China.
Almost half of medium sized businesses (MSBs) in the East of England said they would consider breaking into new overseas markets in the coming year, and around 10 per cent of Essex businesses see China as a potential export market.
Essex International and the Far East
Essex International promotes exports to China and encourages Chinese companies to set up businesses and create new jobs in Essex. Over the last quarter of a century, Essex International has helped hundreds of businesses to export into Jiangsu Province. Through an exclusive 26-year relationship, Essex International is able to provide unique access and offer the right connections to help businesses develop partnerships to help increase their presence in the Chinese market.
Recently, Essex-based specialist healthcare company VitalCare was helped to extend its trade links with China and build a 3200 sqm factory in Jiangsu Province this May.
Last year’s Export Award winner
John Anthony Signs of Rayleigh last year won the Business Excellence Award for Export. The company, which makes signs for the likes of Harrods and McLaren, started out business in 1969 with small scale contracts. The recession forced the company to look overseas for new business and the company now work with brands around the world. The company believes winning the Export Award has raised its profile at home and overseas.
"We are on the cusp of winning a large global deal across 84 countries, which was undoubtedly strengthened by winning the export award, as it was almost a seal of approval as a professional, certified, UK exporter."
David Fagg, Sales & Marketing Director, John Anthony Signs
