Exploring business collaborations with the UK Chinese Embassy

Essex International recently showcased Essex’s business strengths by hosting a delegation of China’s most senior business officials from the UK Chinese Embassy.

Representatives from the county’s airports and ports were brought together by Essex International to promote their China aspirations to visiting delegates.

Essex International, who already has good links with the UK Chinese Embassy, arranged the visit to give the Embassy more direct exposure to potential future business opportunities in Essex.

Delegates from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, a department within the central government of China focusing on trade and business development, were keen to identify potential future business collaborations as well as look at opportunities for Chinese businesses who wish to invest in the UK. The delegation was led by Mr Jin Xu, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s most senior representative within the UK.

Speaking direct to business and government members

During their visit delegates met members from Essex County Council, Essex Chambers of Commerce and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership. The delegates were also given presentations by senior representatives from London Stansted Airport, London Southend Airport and DP World London Gateway.

Visiting London Stansted Airport

London Stansted AirportAfter initial discussions with business leaders the delegates were taken to London Stansted Airport as part of Essex International’s work to promote a direct passenger air link between Essex and China and to hear about the airport’s continued expansion.

The area around London Stansted Airport has strong infrastructure links to the rest of the UK and Europe and close proximity to London, Europe’s no.1 finance hub. Last year a new air cargo route from London Stansted Airport to China opened. The arrival of a commercial air link to China would create new jobs in the region and offer even more choice for passengers in London and the east of England.
