The Harlow Enterprise Zone recently hosted a business delegation from Jiangsu Province in China who was in the UK to explore potential future business opportunities.
Delegates from the Jiangsu Economic and Information Technology Commission, which represents hundreds of small and medium sized enterprises in Jiangsu province, China, were keen to identify potential future business collaborations as well as look at opportunities for Chinese businesses who wish to invest in the UK.
New data centre and business park
During their visit, the delegates were shown the London Road South site of the Harlow Enterprise Zone which is currently being developed into a new data centre complex and business park. Delegates saw the construction and heard about the redevelopment plans of the site that will take place over the forthcoming 18 months.
New science park
The delegates also looked at the London Road North site and were told about the plans to develop this area into a new Science Park. Of particular interest was the potential for SME’s (small and medium enterprises) to relocate to the Enterprise Zone and how the Enterprise Zone might be able to assist businesses in the ICT (Information & Communications Technology), Life Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
The next stage in the development of the 25 acres of greenfield land at London Road North to the new Science Park will be for Harlow Council to find a joint venture development partner.
Essex and China links
The visit was organised by the Essex International team at Essex County Council and, as part of their ongoing 26 partnership with Jiangsu Province, they were able to facilitate what is hoped will be another productive relationship.
