VitalCare opens new factory in Jiangsu Province ChinaVitalCare is a healthcare company specialising in the design and manufacture of single-use urology & diabetes care medical devices. The company also has a successful range of VitalCare branded diabetes care devices which are available in NHS hospitals. 
 
Founded in January 2003, the company’s UK base, based at the Essex Technology & Innovation Centre (ETIC) in Ongar, manages the sales and B2B distribution to customers in the UK, Europe, Middle East and USA. In 2015 VitalCare opened a factory in Jiangsu Province after Essex International helped VitalCare extend its trade links with China.

Why VitalCare came to Essex International

VitalCare needed help expanding their business links, in particular working with China.  Although already successful in sourcing medical devices from China for over 10 years, VitalCare’s goal was to become the producer of those products instead of relying on sub-suppliers.

VitalCare’s existing supplier base was based in Jiangsu Province, the region of China with which Essex International has deep historical connections.

How Essex International worked with VitalCare

Essex International provided the resources and connections in Jiangsu Province, which enabled VitalCare to quickly navigate the steps needed to set up production.

By keeping the new factory venture in Jiangsu, VitalCare were able to continue to utilise not only the numerous local raw material suppliers, but were able to retain their small Chinese team located there.

The result

Essex International set up a tour of Jiangsu Province for Managing Director Lewis Calcutt and his China team.  This trip consisted of a series of meetings with various economic development zones all over the Province.  These zones are commonly used by the Chinese government to create a strategic eco-system for businesses which are often operated by the regional government. 

VitalCare were able to access important incentives reserved for wholly-owned foreign enterprises setting up in China.  This, in addition to the excellent incentives offered by the local zones and the preferential treatment owing to the ECC connection, proved to be essential to the successful outcome.

VitalCare new factory in Jiangsu Province ChinaIn May 2015 VitalCare’s 3200sqm Chinese factory opened, containing a 1200sqm class 7 cleanroom, employing 30 people and operating with state-of-the-art machinery.

Future plans

The company continues to expand and the focus for VitalCare is to work towards becoming the #1 original equipment manufacturer (OEM) urology care products company in the UK, followed by Europe.
